Her tenure at The Washington Post was spent reporting on numerous Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis along with basketball, football and other sports. Nichols worked for nine years at ESPN which was where she earned two Emmy Awards. Her Monday Night Football coverage as the team's reporter was an integral part of her work with the network. Next, she moved on to CNN Sports and Turner. The first program she developed and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired regularly on CNN as well as CNN International. This is only the second nomination in the 42 years that have preceded this award to a woman from the more than 200 nominees contenders.
